What will you do as a  Mechanical Engineer?
You start your day checking the latest test results of a durability test on the in-wheel motor system. You draw conclusions on the outcome and assess which risks are covered and if new risks are identified via these tests. You provide your feedback and report your conclusions to the system architect. Afterwards, you work on a variety of tasks in areas such as performing mechanical calculations, CAD/DMU management, technical meetings with suppliers and the team to communicate and convey the most ideal mechanical development plan for the team.

Just before lunch you attend your daily team meeting to update the motor team on the progress of your current tasks and future steps for the tasks you are currently working on.
In the afternoon you talk to your other colleagues in the team to direct and support them in information for any sub-task linked or directly related to the global tasks you are currently managing. You for instance get informed on the latest vehicle tests outcomes and upcoming test plans to identify the inspections that need to be performed.
At the end of the day you are processing and collating design and technical project data to enable input for the next day’s update. Occasionally you will be needed to attend the production facility or test labs to inspect, re-work or action the final steps of system assembly together with the prototyping team. You provide a safety and structural check of the system before clearing it to be commissioned.

In this role you will focus on, but are not limited to:
Preferred knowledge of:
  • Automotive systems, i.e. braking system, suspension, chassis,
  • vehicle dynamics and electric vehicle drivetrain design.
  • Bearing and seal system design.
  • Excellent mechanical design knowledge and ability to do hand calculations for structural elements within an environment containing many various dynamic loading inputs.
  • Loaded and structurally functioning mechanical housings/enclosures.
  • Strong skill set in CAD package/DMU and PLM data management.
     
  • Hands-on experience working in a workshop with tools and machines to conduct inspections and part modifications/re-work.
  • Must be able to work under time pressure
  • Manage and maintain specific mechanical interfacing requirements and updates to other teams and systems.

  • Master or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 2+ years of experience in similar roles
  • Required knowledge with the following tools: SOLID WORKS (or other high level CAD package)
  • Preferred knowledge with the following tools: ANSYS, Abaqus FEA, Matlab
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop effective solutions
  • Ability to work independently in a complex and fast moving environment with a highly dynamic character
  • Strong teamwork skills but also demonstrated abilities in resolving complex issues regarding Mechanical Design
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively on problems that have not been tackled yet, this in an iterative and collaborative manner. You are able to deliver analysis on difficult projects with tight time constraints
  • You are a strong communicator and able to communicate and report complicated and detailed results in an easy manner to both design engineers and technical management
  • You are flexible with an eagerness to learn, you love to work in an continuously changing environment
  • Highly evolved written and oral communication skills
  • Availability for 38 hours a week
